Transformed Lives! Renewed Hope!
Personal testimony of Rev. Dr. J. Bradley Roth
From birth, my early years were plagued with great health difficulties, which threatened my life on more than one occasion. Throughout those years I watched my mother faithfully pray our family through each of these health crises and saw God repeatedly respond to her prayers. I had fourteen different surgical procedures by the time I was sixteen years old and on one occasion almost died from complications. My mother kept telling me that God had something for me to do and had saved me from death for that purpose. (Rom 8:28) My mother was a nurse and a physically strong person but it was her faith in those early years of trouble, combined with a Godly Sunday school teacher that convinced me to make that faith my own when I professed faith in Jesus Christ as Lord at the age of five. (Rom 10:9)
Raised in a Christian home, with God's obvious involvement in my improving health, I began to sense God's purpose and call on my life as a young teenager. By the age of fifteen he had me singing and preaching the gospel all over Baltimore. Then in my first year of college, God brought Martha into my life, the wonderful woman who would, four years later, become my wife. He has since guided us with our life verse, 1 Corinthians 2:9&10. I attended the U. of Maryland and Catonsville Community College for general courses and then pursued theological training at Philadelphia College of Bible (now Cairn U.) and then seminary years later, finishing my doctorate at Master's International School of Divinity in 2014. The Lord would eventually bless us with three great kids who are now all married to wonderful Christian people and are providing us with adorable grandchildren.
The Lord has seen fit to have me serve him as a pastor, worship pastor, youth pastor, Christian radio personality, Bible teacher, chaplain, professional Christian musician and marriage counselor. I have had my shares of ups and downs, successes and failures, and come to Egypt Community Church as just a sinner saved by God's grace. I have learned the essential nature of experience and compassion, not just education, when ministering to others in their need. My purpose is to teach through God’s Word and our life together, that faith in the risen Christ gives hope and that He did not promise to remove our trials but to see us through them. (Heb 13:5) My wife and I have had to exercise that principle numerous times. That has enabled me to have compassion for those who are struggling, because I know first hand what it's like to struggle.
I believe that the greatest discovery we can make is that we are weak and desperately need to acknowledge the presence of God in our lives, not just to help us through our troubles, but for life itself, both physical and eternal. (Acts 17:28) Most of all, I've learned that God is in charge and is faithful to His promises and that if we acknowledge Him in everything, He will guide us! (Prov. 3:5-6)
Our experience here at Egypt Community Church has been joyful from the moment that I walked into the first meeting with the search committee. Martha and I have been warmly received into their assembly. We look forward with great anticipation to doing the Lord’s work with you in this place where the Gospel has been preached for almost three hundred years!
